ANALYSIS OF ART WORK

During her studentship and for the following couple of years, Zehra Efe based her works on surreal images that emerged from her inner fluctuations caused by her search of self, with her intellectual momentum only just taking form. Althought her conceptual awareness hadn't yet manifested, the images in her initial paintings were the closest references of her expression throught direct figures.

Later on, she abandoned the figure and chose to arrange the canvas by splitting the surface. These arrangements mostly comprise triangles of all sizes and highlight the dominant harmony. The sma arrangements and chromatic approach found in Ferruh Basaga's abstract works can also be observed in most of Zehra Efe's painting. Zehra Efe's canvases are domainated by sharper colours and shapes, as opposed to Ferruh Basaga;s pastel and blurred colours and shapes. What I lately focus on Zehra Efes's paintings (even though I am unsure as to whether it is developed intentionally) is the monumental characteristic of her works, by which I mean her ability to turn small pieces into large masses through her use of dominant harmony. And anyway the young artist strives to use large physical infrastructures (canvas size) for her works so as to strengthen this monumental concept. As fas as I've gotten to know her, Zehra's cultural background is on a path of enrichment due to her interest in various fields, which is why she never shies from challenging her skills by changing her style in an attempt to find herself.

After all, finding one's unique voice is only made possible by fulfilling the time/place/action triangle. Consciousness/mind/action are also essential in determining an artist's development. Assuming that courageously and loyally adhering to this truth and to the enlightened path of a free mind empowers an artist, it is possible to say Zehra Efe has embarked on a successful jourmey. Zehra Efe's willingness to purse an academic career stems from her desire to develop herself as an artist.
